Jarryd Lyons
Logs 27 disposals in loss
MBrisbane Lions
September 4, 2021
Lyons logged 27 disposals (15 kicks, 12 handballs) and made five tackles during Saturday's 79-78 loss to the Western Bulldogs.
ANALYSIS
Lyons has been remarkably consistent over the final month of the season but could have served to make a bigger impact if his squad were to advance deeper in the finals. For now, he'll have to lick his wounds and prepare for 2022 after logging good averages of 28.1 disposals and 6.4 marks per game in 2021.
Hugh McCluggage
Busy in loss
MBrisbane Lions
September 4, 2021
McCluggage scored one goal and two behinds to go with 28 disposals (19 kicks, nine handballs) and made seven marks during Saturday's 79-78 loss to the Western Bulldogs.
ANALYSIS
McCluggage finished the season with at least 100 points scored in four of his last six games and a streak of four straight games with a goal. Unfortunately, he's not the kind of player to carry the Lions deeper into the finals, so his season ends here with a good average of 25 disposals per game.
Darcy Gardiner
Good to go for semi-final
DBrisbane Lions
September 2, 2021
Gardiner (knee) is in his usual fullback spot for Saturday's semi-final versus the Bulldogs.
ANALYSIS
Gardiner was given a test designation earlier in the week due to a knee injury but has apparently pulled up well in training. He will join Marcus Adams and Brandon Starcevich on the back line and can have some fantasy value on occasion.
Callum Ah Chee
Listed as emergency
MBrisbane Lions
Groin
September 2, 2021
Ah Chee (groin) is listed as an emergency for Saturday's semi-final versus the Bulldogs.
ANALYSIS
Ah Chee doesn't seem likely to take the field unless things go south for some of the other Lions ahead of the match. The fact that he's listed as an emergency could bode well for his chances of returning next round, should they advance.
Ryan Lester
Set to return for semi-final
DBrisbane Lions
August 31, 2021
Coch Chris Fagan indicated that Lester is an "absolute certainty" to be available for Saturday's semi-final match versus the Bulldogs, Michael Whiting of the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lester sat out the elimination final due to a hamstring issue but appears set to make his return to action Saturday. He compiled 12 disposals -- seven handballs and five kicks -- four marks and four tackles the last time he donned the jumper for the Lions.
Callum Ah Chee
Could return for semi-final
MBrisbane Lions
Groin
August 31, 2021
After missing last week's elimination final due to a groin issue, Ah Chee is considered a test for Saturday's semi-final versus Western, Michael Whiting of the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Ah Chee looked to be doing well in the early stages of training Tuesday, which bodes well for his chances of making it back for Friday's semi-final. A final word on his status should come later in the week.
Charlie Cameron
Game-high five majors in defeat
FBrisbane Lions
August 28, 2021
Cameron collected 13 disposals, four marks, and one behind to go along with five goals Saturday as Brisbane fell to Melbourne 93-60 in a qualifying final match at Adelaide Oval.
ANALYSIS
Cameron registered double-digit touches and multiple marks for a seventh-straight appearance and led all players in majors in Saturday's loss. The 27 year-old has now topped 90 fantasy points in every contest played in the month of August and after accounting for 16 goals over that same period of time, currently finds himself one of only six players in the AFL having surpassed 50 to this point in the year.
Lachie Neale
Season-high 46 disposals in loss
MBrisbane Lions
August 28, 2021
Neale brought in 46 disposals, 13 clearances, five marks, three tackles and a single goal assist Saturday as Brisbane fell to Melbourne 93-60 in a qualifying final match at Adelaide Oval.
ANALYSIS
Neale proved a dominant force on Saturday, netting season-highs for kicks (22), handballs (24), disposals and clearances and falling just six fantasy points of a season-high 145 recorded back in a Round Five rout of Essendon. Neale now preps for a crucial semi-final match-up against either Western or the Bombers having averaged 35.3 touches, 7.3 clearances, 4.6 tackles, 3.6 marks and 123.3 fantasy points over each of the Lions' last three outings.
Daniel McStay
Suffers concussion in loss
FBrisbane Lions
Concussion
August 28, 2021
McStay was subbed out of Saturday's 93-60 qualifying loss to Melbourne due to concussion concerns, Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
McStay exited Saturday's contest early in the first term after sustaining a blow to the face from teammate Nakia Cockatoo's knee during a marking contest. He was subbed out in favor of Rhys Mathieson, who went on to contribute 13 disposals, five tackles, three marks and a single clearance in the losing effort. The 29 year-old's absence in next week's semi-final clash between Brisbane and either Western or Essendon leaves the Lions with a clear void to fill at forward.
Harris Andrews
Slated to play
DBrisbane Lions
Hamstring
August 24, 2021
Andrews is listed as a test for the opening round of the finals against Melbourne, according to Michael Whiting of AFL.com.
ANALYSIS
Andrews missed Round 23 as a precaution but shouldn't have the same issue as long as he passes his tests before the weekend. With averages of 15.4 disposals and 8.1 marks per game in 2021, Andrews offers decent value for a defender.
Mitch Robinson
Expected to play
MBrisbane Lions
Calf
August 24, 2021
Robinson (calf) is listed as a test for the first round of the finals against Melbourne, according to Michael Whiting of AFL.com.
ANALYSIS
Robinson missed the last two rounds of the home-and-away season but he is much closer to playing than he was even a week ago. Should he pass his fitness test before selection, there shouldn't be any issues of playing for Robinson, who's made as many as 12 marks in a game this season.
Lachie Neale
Team-high 29 touches, eight tackles
MBrisbane Lions
August 21, 2021
Neale produced 29 disposals, eight tackles, six clearances and a single mark, goal and behind each Saturday as Brisbane defeated West Coast 125-87 at Gabba.
ANALYSIS
Neale tied a season-high for touches (12), matched Daniel Rich's team-high 29 disposals and registered his fourth goal in five showings on Saturday. The 32 year-old forward has now topped 100 fantasy points in four consecutive appearances and currently sports a hefty 125.5 point-per-game average for the month of August.
Daniel Rich
Team-high 29 disposals, six marks
DBrisbane Lions
August 21, 2021
Rich collected 29 disposals, six marks, two tackles and a single goal, goal assist, behind and clearance each Saturday as Brisbane knocked off West Coast 125-87 at Gabba.
ANALYSIS
Rich tied teammate Lachie Neal as Brisbane's leader in touches, was one of three players to pace the Lions in marks and set a season-high for inside 50s (8) on Saturday. The veteran defender subsequently cataloged his best fantasy scoring total since Round 8 in the victory and heads into the post-season having topped 100+ points in four of his last five showings.
Jarryd Lyons
Match-high 125 fantasy points
MBrisbane Lions
August 21, 2021
Lyons acquired 19 disposals, 14 tackles, five marks, three clearances and a single goal and goal assist each Saturday as Brisbane knocked off West Coast 125-87 at Gabba.
ANALYSIS
While Lyons recorded less than 20 touches for the first time this year on Saturday, a career-high 14 tackles helped to take away any potential sting he may have felt. The 29 year-old also tallied his third goal and seventh goal assist of August in the contest, and in doing so, extended a streak of showings with 100+ fantasy points to six.
Mitch Robinson
Listed as test
MBrisbane Lions
Calf
August 17, 2021
Robinson (calf) is listed as a test for Round 23 against West Coast, according to Michael Whiting of AFL.com.
ANALYSIS
Robinson missed Round 22 with a minor calf issue and will look to get one more game under his belt to assure his fitness before the finals. With two scores over 100 fantasy points over his last four games, Robinson has decent potential, but otherwise isn't consistent enough with an average of 19.1 disposals per game.
Marcus Adams
Could return next week
DBrisbane Lions
Ankle
August 14, 2021
Adams (ankle) is expected to return for Round 23 versus West Coast, per AFL Ratings.
ANALYSIS
Adams was given a four-to-six week return timeline in mid-July, and it appears he'll land within that range. He's only reached the 80-point threshold in three of his 14 matches this season, so the defender is likely just a mid-range fantasy option at best.
Jarryd Lyons
Logs game-high 139 fantasy points
MBrisbane Lions
August 14, 2021
Lyons gained 29 disposals, six marks, nine tackles, six clearances, three goal assists and a single goal and behind each Saturday as Brisbane knocked off Collingwood 142-57 at Gabba.
ANALYSIS
Lyons topped 27 disposals for a fifth-consecutive appearance, matched teammate Dayne Zorko's game-high nine tackles and tied a personal-best three goal assists in Saturday's contest. The 139 fantasy points he produced also paced all players for the match and finds the Brisbane midfielder having now logged 100+ fantasy points in every Lions' outing since Jul. 16.
Charlie Cameron
Six majors v. Magpies
FBrisbane Lions
August 14, 2021
Cameron drew 12 disposals, six marks and a pair of tackles to go along with six majors Saturday as Brisbane knocked off Collinwood 142-57 at Gabba.
ANALYSIS
Cameron topped double-digit touches for a fifth-straight showing and matched his second-highest mark total of the year for the third time in four appearances on Saturday, but it was a personal-best tying and game-high six majors that caused the 27 year-old to stand out in Brisbane's win over Collingwood. The Lions forward has now combined for 29 disposals, 12 marks and seven tackles in his last two outings alone, and heads into a critical Round 23 showdown with West Coast currently ranked the AFL's No. 14 in goals per game (2.10).
Lachie Neale
In lineup for Round 22
MBrisbane Lions
August 12, 2021
Neale made the lineup for Round 22 against Collingwood.
ANALYSIS
Neale missed Round 21 against Fremantle with gastroenteritis but is already back in the team. He's averaged 25.1 disposals per game through 13 starts in 2021.
Mitch Robinson
Out against Collingwood
MBrisbane Lions
Calf
August 12, 2021
Robinson (calf) will miss Round 22 against Collingwood.
ANALYSIS
Robinson doesn't seem to be dealing with a serious injury, so he should be able to return by the finals, even if he's not available over the next two games.
Darcy Gardiner
Nearing return
DBrisbane Lions
Shoulder
August 10, 2021
Gardiner (shoulder) is listed as a test for for Round 22, according to Michael Whiting of AFL.com.
ANALYSIS
Gardiner spent nearly three months out with a dislocated shoulder and should be able to play if he's cleared. So far, he's averaged 13.6 disposals per game in five appearances this season.
Mitch Robinson
Leaves game due to calf inury
MBrisbane Lions
Calf
August 8, 2021
Robinson left Sunday's 118-54 drumming of Fremantle with a calf injury, ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Robinson exited Sunday's contest at three-quarter time due to an apparent calf injury, but not before registering 13 disposals, four clearances, three tackles, two marks and a single goal assist. The veteran midfielder was replaced by Thomas Berry.
Joe Daniher
Matches season-high four goals
FBrisbane Lions
August 8, 2021
Daniher bagged 17 disposals, seven marks, four goals and a behind, tackle and hitout each Sunday as Brisbane knocked off Fremantle 118-54 at Optus Stadium.
ANALYSIS
Daniher compiled a double-digit disposal total for a ninth-consecutive appearance and catalogued a minimum of five marks for a third-straight showing on Saturday. Still, it was a season-high tying four majors that left the Lions forward a standout versus Fremantle and finds the 27 year-old currently ranked the AFL's No. 11 in total goals (38) on the year. Daniher prepares for an Aug. 14 match-up with Collingwood having now topped 90 fantasy points in two of Brisbane's last four outings and averaging a respective 72 points per game in 2021.
Dayne Zorko
34 touches, 10 tackles v. Brisbane
MBrisbane Lions
August 8, 2021
Zorko attained 34 disposals, 10 tackles, seven clearances and a goal and behind each Sunday as Brisbane trounced Fremantle 118-54 at Optus Stadium.
ANALYSIS
Zorko registered a season-high 24 kicks en route to a game-high 34 touches and paced all players in tackles in Saturday's match. The Lions midfielder also posted his best inside (11) and rebound 50 (5) totals of the year, leaving him with his second 130 fantasy point performance in as many weeks. The 32 year-old continues to enjoy a strong start to August, a month in which he's averaged 23 kicks, 8.5 handballs, 31.5 disposals, 7.5 tackles, six clearances, 1.5 behinds and a goal per showing. Next up for Zorko is a Aug. 14 match-up with Collingwood.
Daniel McStay
Bags four majors in win
FBrisbane Lions
August 1, 2021
McStay kicked four goals to go with 16 disposals (eight kicks, eight handballs) and made eight marks during Sunday's 92-80 loss to Hawthorn in Round 20.
ANALYSIS
McStay had the best performance of his season at the right time but inefficiency elsewhere ended up costing his Lions the final result. As he's capable of scoring 90 fantasy points but only averages 9.7 disposals per game, McStay isn't the most reliable target.
