Suffers ruptured Achilles
Hill announced Friday that he will require surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hill, who claimed the UFC Light Heavyweight Title in January, will relinquish his title as he undergoes surgery and completes a prolonged recovery process. The 32-year-old allegedly suffered the injury during a basketball game earlier this month with other MMA fighters ahead of UFC 290 in Las Vegas. Hill is unlikely to make a full recovery from surgery for 6-to-8 months, at a minimum.

New UFC Light Heavyweight Champion
Hill became the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion on Saturday, defeating Glover Teixeira via unanimous decision (50-44, 50-44, 50-44) at UFC 283 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
This was a highly impressive performance from Hill on countless levels. For starters, he didn't have a full training camp, as this fight was announced not all that long ago. He appeared cool, calm, and collected on by far the biggest stage of his career. He battered Teixeira from bell-to-bell, with the toughness of Glover being the sole reason this fight lasted the entire 25 minutes, Hill didn't overextended himself, he picked his spots, and his cardio held up. Oh, he also stuffed 15-of-17 Teixeira takedown attempts. Basically, all the concerns people had regarding Jamahal were answered here against a future Hall of Famer. It was a complete effort from a highly talented fighter. With the win, Hill becomes the first alum of the Dana White Contender Series to win a UFC belt. The scary thing is that Hill has just 13 professional fights under his belt. He should only continue to get better. On top of that, he'll take home an extra $50,000 bonus after this bout was awarded Fight of the Night honors.

Taking on Glover Teixeira for title
Hill will face Glover Teixeira for the vacant light heavyweight title at UFC 283 on Jan. 21 in Brazil, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hill was slated to fight Anthony Smith in the main event at UFC's March 11 card, but he'll instead get a shot at the light heavyweight belt, which was left vacant after Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev fought to a split draw Saturday. Teixeira lost the title to Jiri Prochazka in June with the pair scheduled for a rematch, but that fight was called off after Prochazka dropped out with a shoulder injury. Teixeira will now receive a chance to reclaim the belt against Hill, who is coming off a win over Thiago Santos in August and has won three consecutive bouts.

Set to fight again in March

Second straight main event win
Hill defeated Thiago Santos via TKO (punches) at 2:31 of Round 4 at UFC on ESPN 40 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Hill's stoppage win means every single fight on this night failed to reach the scorecards for just the second time in UFC history and the first since November 2014. Hill had to work hard for this one, and he easily could have lost. He had all sorts of issues with Santos' wrestling. It was a shocking game plan from a guy who has never been known as much of a grappler, but he got Hill to the mat six different times. Jamahal was frequently able to work his way back to his feet immediately, and he didn't absorb much damage considering Santos' 5:54 worth of control time, but that's an area he will have to clean up moving forward. The stoppage came when the Brazilian simply gassed out and Hill seized the opportunity to fire off countless shots which caused referee Herb Dean to step in. This fight was considerably closer than one would have originally thought considering Hill entered as roughly a -325 favorite. The 31-year-old has now won three in a row and four of five dating back to December 2020. He'll also take home a $50,000 bonus after this matchup was awarded Fight of the Night honors.
