Caleb Williams

22-Year-Old QuarterbackQB
2024 Fantasy Outlook
The No. 1 pick in this year’s draft, Williams heads to the Bears as the franchise quarterback. The same was expected of Justin Fields just three years ago, but Fields, who was traded to Pittsburgh in March, never had the talent with which the Bears have surrounded Williams. Eight picks after Williams, the Bears drafted Rome Odunze, a 6-3 wideout with 4.45 speed. He joins holdover DJ Moore and trade acquisition Keenan Allen, giving the Bears one of the league’s better WR rooms. The Bears also signed D’Andre Swift, a good pass catcher out of the backfield, and return TE Cole Kmet, who had 11 red-zone TD receptions the last two seasons, second only to Travis Kelce. New offensive coordinator Shane Waldron didn’t exactly turn heads as Seattle’s OC the last few years, but it should go better than what the Bears had last season. Especially with Williams, a playmaker who is adept at making something out nothing. At 6-1, 215, Williams can torch defenses from the pocket with elite arm talent but also has the mobility to make plays outside the pocket, throwing with just as much accuracy and velocity on the move. If Williams has a fault, it’s that he sometimes holds the ball too long in hopes of a big play, thereby inviting trouble. Even then, though, his scrambling ability adds to his fantasy upside. The Bears are the only franchise without a 4,000-yard passer in its history. Williams should finally change that. Read Past Outlooks
Taken first overall by Chicago

The Bears selected Williams in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, first overall.
ANALYSIS
Williams has long been tabbed as the obvious choice to be the first overall pick in this year's draft, and with the Bears jettisoning Justin Fields this offseason, the USC product has been dubbed the future of the franchise in Chicago for some time. The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner began his career at Oklahoma where he supplanted fellow 2024 draft hopeful, Spencer Rattler, as the starter for the Sooners and looked to be the next great quarterback in Norman. He followed coach Lincoln Riley to USC the following year and won the Heisman on the strength of a tremendous season with 4,537 yards, 42 touchdowns and five interceptions while adding 10 rushing touchdowns. Williams entered 2023 with expectations of building on that season but the Trojans fell short, dropping five games. The losses, coupled with some shaky individual performances from Williams in those games, put him under the scouting microscope during the pre-draft process. Questions arose regarding Williams' ability to play within structure and whether he was over-reliant on the type of improvising outside the pocket that won't translate to the NFL. However, Williams' overall body of work -- the ability to be deadly accurate to any spot on the field, to move around in and outside the pocket, and anticipate throwing windows -- made him the consensus top player in the class. He will be in a uniquely favorable setup for a top overall pick as oftentimes, the first pick is tasked with saving a flailing franchise with a bad roster. The Bears are solid along the offensive line and have a stable of top-notch receiving talent in DJ Moore and Keenan Allen to help Williams get on track from the jump. Williams immediately becomes a viable quarterback in redraft leagues and is a premier asset in dynasty formats.

Williams had dinner with veteran leaders on the Bears such as Cole Kmet and DJ Moore during his visit to Chicago earlier this month, and he remains the overwhelming favorite to be selected first overall by the team in the 2024 NFL Draft, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Typically, draft prospects have a dinner with the coaching staff and front office personnel during their visit, but the Bears elected to get a jump on working Williams onto the roster by letting him get to know his likely future teammates instead. Moore and Kmet in particular could be two of Williams' top targets to begin his NFL career if he does become a Bear. The quarterback won the Heisman Trophy in 2022 with USC after transferring from Oklahoma, and he's emerged from a group of QBs that includes LSU's Jayden Daniels and North Carolina's Drake Maye to be the likely top pick in the draft.
